‘Twilight’ news wrap: which castmember has the biggest break-out potential?
There are quite a few items of Twilight news to share today, so to keep it short and simple, here’s a wrap-up of the latest!
For starters, the question has been raised over at Movies.com as to which Twilight castmember has the biggest break-out potential thanks to the Saga. The three names which came up most frequently were Anna Kendrick, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Kellan Lutz. I submitted my thoughts for the piece (note: I agree that Kendrick is a big break-out star, but I think her break-out potential really doesn’t stem from Twilight alone; rather her Oscar nomination for Up In The Air and her work in films like 50/50) as follows:
“Jamie Campbell Bower and Xavier Samuel are the two who have real breakout potential thanks to The Twilight Saga. Bower had done Sweeney Todd and other work before, but he’s gotten some serious acceleration after doing New Moon (what with scoring a place in Harry Potter, then the lead in Camelot, and, of course, now with his part in The Mortal Instruments). Samuel, meanwhile, has gotten a lot of attention as well. Many fans are excited to see what he’ll do next. The fact that these two worked together on Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous is just icing on the cake. I look to see good things from both…”

Meanwhile, another Twilight castmember, Justin Chon (“Eric Yorkie”) has been exhibiting his own break-out potential, asVariety reports, he’s in “early negotiations to join Miles Teller in toplining Relativity Media and Mandeville Films’ comedy ‘21 and Over’ [which] ‘The Hangover’ scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore are writing and directing.” According to Variety, the film “follows two childhood friends who drag their straight-arrow buddy out to celebrate his 21st birthday the night before an all-important med school interview. As one beer leads to another, the evening spirals into an epic misadventure of debauchery and mayhem.” Sounds like a pretty fun new project for Chon, don’t you think?
Another Twilight castmember you might contend has really “broken out” on the scene is Michael Sheen (“Aro”), but again he’s made his impression outside of the Saga. USA Today has a great new feature on Sheen in which he discussed the benefit of having a miscellaneous career (namely, the fact that he’s played so many, vastly different characters during the course of his career).
“The big stars in our industry are partly big stars because they’re recognizable for doing a particular kind of thing, and I’ve never really been that interested in doing that. It’s the difference in parts that I play that I enjoy the most … I’m not surprised that people might go, ‘Well, hang on. He’s the guy who plays the politicians.’ Or, ‘No, he’s the guy who does the werewolves and vampires.’ I’m not really looking to become the sort of actor who gets known for doing one thing. I quite like the fact that people don’t know what column to put me in.”
For sure.
There are a couple of additional Twilight casting updates to share today as well. Michael Welch (“Mike Newton”) has announced that he scored a role in a film called The Boys of Abu Ghraib, and it has also been announced that Tinsel Korey (“Emily Young”) and Bronson Pelletier (“Jared”) will be teaming up together outside of the Twilight Saga for a film called Fishing Naked.
Finally, there are murmurs that the wedding dress from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 made a trip to New York City this week for a photoshoot, with ReelzChannel reporting, “we have it on good word that the dress is currently being photographed in New York for a pre-release reveal.” Last week, we discussed your opinions as to whether fans should see the dress before the film hits theaters, and the consensus seemed to be a resounding “NO.” Thoughts now with ReelzChannel’s report?
