No prom experience would be complete without the right playlist.

In fact, it’d be impossible to imagine a prom without music. You might as well axe the prom king too…that actually sort of happens in the new bloodthirsty black comedy, The Loved Ones.

In the film, after Brent [Xavier Samuel] turns down Lola [Robin McLeavy] for the prom, Lola kidnaps Brent for a night he’ll never forget. What ensues is nothing short of brutally hilarious. In fact, it’s literally side-splitting.

So, given the unique nature of this “Prom”, ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino and news editor Amy Sciarretto spoke to the cast of The Loved Ones about their ideal prom songs.

What’s on your prom playlist?

Xavier Samuel: Maybe something from Metallica would be quite good? [Laughs] I’ve been thinking about songs because a friend of mine is getting married, and we’ve been asked to choose wedding songs. It’s a bit different from the prom experience, but I think you can’t go wrong with Elvis Presley’s “All Shook Up”. As for the prom I have in the movie, “That Was Just Your Life” [Laughs].
